St. Anna´s School

In the schoolA 10 kilometer walk to school on 6 year old legs!

Some young primary school students attending St. Anna’s school, in the beautiful hills of Kenya, need to travel many kilometers just to get to school and then, after a long day of studies, must make the journey home again. Older ones may be able to walk, but most students need a free school bus ride to be able to attend school.

The current minivan they use is unreliable and can not take many children. A used bus, in good condition, has been found which would be safe for transporting the children home. The cost of the bus is €13,000 which includes the cost of purchase and some initial maintenance work.

St. AnnaSt. Anna's is a rural school located about 2 hours drive from Nairobi. The school provides education for 240 students from nursery class to class 8. Many of these children are orphaned by AIDS and live with their grandparents.

The school was started by Bishop Mahiaini and his wife, a couple in their 80's, who desired to use their retirement years to help their communities’ poor and orphaned children and the grandparents who care for them.

Project is managed by an active board of Kenyans with accounting and auditing support.
